Accessibility Validation and Certification
Euracert label
Born out of the combined efforts of the BrailleNet Association in France, ONA in Belgium and Technosite, belonging to the Fundosa Group, in Spain, and with the aim of jointly issuing recognition of a Web site´s accessibility, the Euracert label is an initiative that unifies accessibility criteria across the European Union.
Thanks to the work on harmonisation carried out at a European level by these organisations specialising in Web accessibility, with the European Commission´s backing, Web sites now have a recognised label which combines all the resources currently available and considered as valid references for Web accessibility:
- International guidelines: WAI´s WCAG 1.0
- An evaluation methodology (UWEM):
- A conformity assessment scheme: The CEN Workshop Agreement presents the "Specifications for a Web Accessibility Conformity Assessment Scheme and a Web Accessibility Quality Mark".
The Euracert label has been set up on the basis of these common references in order to provide a framework for organisations working with these international guidelines.
By being recognised in other countries, the value of the existing national labels will therefore, in principle, be enhanced and in effect, there is a potential for the harmonisation of all the European labels within one single label.
